Personality:
The first thing of note is that he has a notable fondness for tales of military history and achievement, conquerors, and great leaders. As a royal troll, he aspires to live up to these stories, which has led him to develop a rather large ego and somewhat overdramatic mannerisms and personality traits. He has a passion for the idea of conquest and glory, so much of what he does is an attempt to win glory for himself. Unfortunately, all of this makes him "a bit of a tool". (The whole hipster appearance likely doesn't help matters.)
He has a particular hate for landdwellers, and spends a good deal of time plotting to kill them all. There is no actual reason for this given in canon other than the fact that he hates the amount of garbage they produce, particularly because it ends up in the ocean. Although one could extrapolate that, based on what we know of troll culture, this is partially the result of internalised beliefs of superiority due to blood colour and physical traits. Thus, not only are land trolls inherently inferior, they are deliberately spitting in the face of their betters by polluting the living environment of the royal blooded trolls: the oceans. Still, if this entire genocide thing is the result of littering…
His hatred of landdwellers is so deep that he even lives above water. Why? To spy on them and better learn their habits. After all, one needs to know their enemy to be able to defeat them. Of course, he does mention that of all the landdwelling trolls, he would not kill Kanaya Maryam, as they are friends. Which hints that he does, at least, have the ability to form attachments to individual persons even if they fall under the broad spectrum of people he hates because of what they are. Although, Kanaya has also shown a remarkable ability to put up with his theatrics, which leads to the next part of his personality.
He is quite theatrical in mannerism. He has a tendency to exaggerate and embellish things, such as when he described his relationship with Vriska Serket as one that had not been seen in this universe for ten thousand sweeps, and one that would make the stars turn into rainbow rivers. This also extends to insults and slights. He is remarkably good at holding a grudge (although one can't quite blame him for being a little bitter that he was left to spend most of the 600 hours the trolls spent playing SGRUB alone).
He is inordinately focused with filling his quadrants, particularly after his moirail, Feferi, breaks up with him. He has a tendency to flirt with everyone, regardless of actual interest or chances of compatibility, and disregard being told that his advances are not welcome... to a certain extent. He lacks the temperament to ever force himself on another, but that doesn't stop him from being annoyingly persistent with his flirting, even after he has been told in no uncertain terms that he. is not. wanted. Eridan is also a master of selective hearing. Act nice to him? You must be harboring secret flushed feelings. Get snappish and insult him? Secretly, you have a hate boner for him. And nothing will convince him otherwise.
Also, despite his flirting with everyone, he is still extremely desperate to convince Feferi to be in a relationship with him once more. To this end, he gets into fights with who he perceives as his main rival for her affections, in a bid to convince Feferi that if she won't be his matesprit then she should auspistice between himself and Sollux (said rival). He's desperate enough that even though his goal is for Feferi to be flushed for him, he'd accept ashen feelings.

Negative emotions such as sadness, disappointment, upset all lead to complaining and begging. Annoyance or aggravation lead to posturing, ranting, and also complaining and begging. Given most of his emotions exhibited fall into the negative side, he tends to be complaining a LOT. Because he is often faced with rejection, accept him at your own risk. He can be very clingy; after being Feferi's moirail for an unspecified length of time, he cannot accept that she is no longer interested in him in any fashion.
In certain ways, he is quite guileless. That is, he does have a difficult time obscuring his true intentions when it comes to relationships. On the other hand, he does later show himself capable of a certain level of deceit. Obviously if the other trolls had known he was considering trying to defect to Jack Noir, they would have stopped him sooner, yet the shocked reactions to his declaration that he intended to do this shows that they had no idea that he'd been thinking of such a thing. In fact, it came (or rather, will come, as I am taking him from before then) rather out of the blue. Which means that he is capable of keeping his own plans and motives to himself if he deems it important enough. His own survival and that of the girl he loves does appear to be important enough that he wouldn't risk anyone trying to foil what he sees as the one way that might have a chance of that happening. (Of course, then he kind of just ruins all that… but that is neither here nor there considering that happens well after they get to the Veil.)
This also means he puts his own interests first. This was exhibited even during the game. He spent much of his time on his planet alone, yes, but in certain ways it was his fault, as the only time he really left before fighting the Black King was to duel Sollux. Otherwise, he spent much of his time killing the inhabitants of his land, some rather fearsome angels that weren't meant to be destroyed, despite being told by the other trolls that it was a stupid idea. Add in his earlier desperation to talk to Karkat and being angered until he found out just why he wasn't getting a response, the fact that he has extreme difficulty taking no for an answer, and how he does his best to evade people blocking him from talking to them, and it's fairly easy to see that he's very selfish.
With all this in mind, he would probably agree to oppose the Fay'lia, but depending on how things go (especially in the realm of building any sort of relationship with the other members of the Resistance), he could easily see that it's in his better interests to switch sides. Of course, he can also see the benefits of a successful opposition against the Fay'lia. After all, he believes very much in troll supremacy, and it would be extremely difficult to rebuild the troll race to its former glory if there were some other, more powerful race in the way… As such, for the present time, he's working with the Resistance willingly, albeit with a certain amount of distaste seeing just how poorly outfitted they are.

He does have the obscenely powerful Ahab's Crosshairs (http://mspaintadventures.wikia.com/wiki/Riflekind#Ahab.27s_Crosshairs), and it will be coming with him. How much he'll actually get to use it remains to be seen, but he will need to be informed that it's not the most powerful rifle in this universe. (Well. Section of the multiverse. To be precise.)
He is also in possession of a Sylladex, which is an inventory system wherein objects are stored on cards (a process called Captchaloguing), which allows him to carry much more than would be possible if he had to use a backpack or his own two hands. Alas that we never see how his actually works, but generally speaking most Sylladices are capable of being used as a weapon based on forcing objects out of the Sylladex. This typically is done by picking up another item when the Sylladex is full, although it can happen for other reasons.
