Application

Entanglement has switched over to a dressing room format for now, so applications aren't needed for the time being.

FANDOM CHARACTER APPLICATION:

ORIGINAL CHARACTER APPLICATION:

Whichever application you're posting, please put the character's name, if they're an OC, and their fandom (if any) in the subject line.

Note again that you are allowed to use musebox posts and posts on [livejournal.com profile] testrun_box for your sample. In that case, your total amount of tags written will be added up, so the initial post can be shorter than normal for a sample. You're still required to use a prose format and set the sample in the game universe though.

Seeing that linking to apps posted on the character's own journal appears to be acceptable, I'm just. You know. Going to leave this (http://mirys.livejournal.com/808.html#cutid1) here.

Character:

Character's Name: Ba’al (http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Ba%27al)
Character's Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Character's Home Universe: THE MILKY WAY GALAXY (http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Milky_Way).

Physical Appearance:
Ba’al (or rather, Ba’al’s host) is about 5’10” - 6’ tall, with dark, graying hair and eyes, and a well-kept goatee. He’s rather well-built, too, with muscular arms and shoulders. He has a rather dramatic style, but he’s not nearly as overdressed as other System Lords.
Ba’al saying “Bzuh?” (http://www.stargatecaps.com/sg1/s10/1010/html/questpt1_0460.html)
Ba’al and Mitchell checkin out the ladies (http://www.stargatecaps.com/sg1/s10/1010/html/questpt1_0466.html)
Walkin the walk and talkin the talk (”http://www.stargatecaps.com/sg1/s10/1010/html/questpt1_0547.html”)

Personality:
Ba’al is one of the more interesting of the System Lords, despite the fact that he can be neatly summed up in the words “complete dick”. He’s sexist, racist/speciesist, and extremely arrogant, focused entirely on himself and what he has to gain. He’s got a ruthless streak a light-year wide, in keeping with his Goa’uld nature. He has a thing for experimenting on his slaves, sometimes overseeing things personally.

He’s also known for his cunning and intelligent strategy. Because of this he was a thorn in the side of Stargate Command through the war with the Goa’ulds, the Replicators, and the Ori, surviving because of his own smarts and his shrewd ability to protect himself.

Despite all this, Ba’al is different than his other System Lord colleagues. He’s less into the megalomaniacal drama, and more into subtlety and deception side of operation. Having spent various lengths of time on Earth, he’s picked up a greater understanding of human psychology and civilization than the other System Lords, and his general manner when communicating with SG teams - apart from the sexism and general Goa’uld arrogance - is more sarcastic than anything else. And while he does only care for what’s in it for him and what will further his own interests, he’s also worked with Earth and changed his methodology at some points when it was in his own best interest. Though he was denigrating and downright insulting, he was also useful.

In short, Ba’al is an intelligent, cunning, methodical, sadistic, deceptive, manipulative, sometimes-helpful asshole, and is above all else not to be trusted, because he’ll burn you the minute you’re not useful to him anymore, or the minute you get in his way.

Abilities and Skills:
Ba’al might be a Goa’uld, but their power lies mostly in their ability to manipulate and intimidate other beings, and in their advanced technology and control of the Stargate system - not in any mystical or supernatural powers. In the absence of that, not many of them are very useful with weapons outside of Jaffa staff weapons, zat’nik’tels, and Ba’al is no exception. His talents lie in his ability to get what he wants by using his words.

Besides that, Ba’al’s cunning mind can also work on puzzles. He’s proven his ability to solve even complicated things such as Ancient control devices. Mostly if it won't obviously benefit him or his services aren't required, he just stands back and needles those actually doing work until someone threatens him sufficiently.

Ba'al [Pt. 2]

[identity profile] allflashnophoto.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
Sample:
Ba’al’s pace was brisk as he made his way down the increasingly narrow streets toward the edge of the city they were currently in. His progress was slowed somewhat by the curious natives of the world, filthy furry creatures who jabbered in some high-pitched language and tugged on his clothes as he passed. He pulled the fabric out of their grubby little paws with a sneer, and continued on his way, the expression on his face one that sent other, wiser beings away.

The building he at last turned into looked like all the other squat, dirty buildings on either side of it. He slipped upstairs. His steps were light, almost jaunty. Today was going to be a good day.

“I information for you,” he said, taking a seat across from the representative of the Fay’lian before the other could instruct him to do so.

“Then tell us.”

Ba’al gave the representative one of his more favored smiles. I am amused, it said, But not enough. Quite wry, indeed. “I’m afraid I cannot simply hand over all my secrets, now,” he replied. “Not without certain... assurances.

“What sort of reward would you require?”

Ba’al pretended to consider a moment; in actuality, he’d known precisely what he would ask for well in advance, since the offer was made. “Control over a portion of universes, with enough troops and supply lines to continue exploration,” he said at last, as though the idea had only just occurred to him. The thought of serving under another master wasn’t one that Ba’al found particularly palatable, but he’d done it before under Anubis, and things had worked out all right for him in the end. He’d learned from his mistakes since then in any case. “Access to new technologies that become available. Anything I require to further whatever aspects of my research I decide to pursue.” He paused for effect. “For the glory of the Fay’lian, of course.”

“A tall order,” the representative replied, a bit of a wry twist to his - its? - official tone. “But one the Fay’lian can easily meet.”

“I take it we have an understanding?”

“We do.” The representative sat back, pulling out a small device Ba’al took for a recorder, and pushed a button on its side. “Now, the information...?”

Ba’al shifted his smile into one of his most satisfied; this would all make up for the indignity of everything that had come before. “Let us begin.”

Character's Name: Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III
Character's Fandom: How to Train Your Dragon (Mostly Film; some random Book Knowledge for extra fleshing.)
Character's Home Universe: "This is Berk. It's twelve days north of hopeless and a few degress south of freezing to death. It's located solidly on the veridian of misery. My village. In a word, sturdy. It's been here for seven generations, but every single building is new. We have fishing, hunting, and a charming view of the sunsets. The only problems are the pests. You see most places have mice or mosquitoes, we have... dragons."

Which is to say, tiny little rock in the middle of a freezing cold ocean that is apparently somewhere near someplace where the Northern Lights are visible, despite the fact that Vikings were Scandanavian and the music in the movie sounds considerably more Scottish. Fantasy worlds yay! The books describe the Barbaric Archipelago pretty much the same as the movie describes Berk, cold and unpleasant and kind of wet all the time, lots of tough and tasteless food, heather everywhere, mud... Throughout most of the books it is commonly mentioned that the people in Berk are never entirely dry due to the weather; it's just a difference between being cold and wet and being warm and wet. So one can assume it rains a lot ("It snows nine months out of the year and hails the other three,") and is always cold and not a lot of interest or deliciousness grows there ("any food that grows here is tough and tasteless,"). The terrain is largely mountainous, foresty and very green. They have villages, obviously which are almost entirely treeless and barren, though that's likely due to the fact that trees are an additional fire hazard. When you're constantly being attacked by dragons, you don't want to put yourself in a position to be any more flammable, trust me. But otherwise, lots of rocks, lots of trees, lots of grass and underbrush... A very wild terrain, given most of the island is uninhabited from the looks of it.

Canon Point you're taking him/her/it from: Near the end of the movie; after the battle with the Green Death is successfully won, but before he wakes up in Berk. Instead he will wake up on the Station. :D;; I am so not kind to my kids.

Method of Arrival on Station: I'm gonna go with option four, cryogenic sleep pod! Mostly because the other options don't really... work for HTTYDverse. XD

Physical Appearance: Hiccup! Is kind of hilariously scrawny and tiny and vaguely adorable and probably has the most retarded smile you've ever seen on a teenage boy. Okay maybe not, most teenage boys have pretty retarded smiles. Anyway! The kid's maybe 5'2" at best, probably weighs eighty pounds, and from the way he struggles to operate the equipment in the smithy, one can assume he has absolutely no muscle mass. He's rail-thin, has sort of noodly arms and legs, big hands that might suggest he'll eventually grow into how long his limbs are, and derpishly huge feet somewhat reminiscent of the Kingdom Hearts franchise (though I'm fairly certain that's just the art style Dreamworks adopted). He has an unruly mop of brownish red hair, vivid green eyes and is covered in freckles. It's repeatedly stated in the books that he's extremely ordinary and easy to overlook, and the movie kept that mostly true with the exception of giving him a particular nose, something vaguely resembling buck-teeth and a scar on his chin. But yeah, he's kind of extremely ordinary, if extremely adorable somehow.

Personality: Hiccup is kind of a snark fairy. He's sarcastic and has a sense of humor drier than the Sahara, though it's largely in his own defense. Y'see, Hiccup has spent the better part of his life as an annoyance and a failure to the entirety of his village. His family, what would be his friends, even the sheep probably rolled their eyes at him fairly regularly. But he's okay with that, for the most part-- he'll just roll his eyes back and spat some sort of sardonic reply and wander off to doodle trees in charcoal so that when someone loses their way he can give them a map the next time they go adventuring. Inwardly, Hiccup hates being a burden, but given his physical strength (or... very stark lack thereof) and less-than-retarded mentality, he's sort of resigned himself to his fate of being the Worst Viking Ever. Despite his resignation, he spends tireless hours and days and years of his life trying to prove himself to the village-- more than anything else, he wants to be accepted. He hides it pretty well, for a kid severely lacking in affection and attention, but he does have a habit of acting out.

...and by acting out, I mean he regularly (accidentally!) sets the village on fire trying to show his dad he can be awesome.

That said, the kid does have a fuse. It's a very slow burn, but he does get frustrated and he will snap at people, it just takes the better part of forever for it to actually happen. He's very loyal, despite the cold shoulder he receives in return for his loyalty, and he'd never hesitate to help someone out if he thought he actually could. Given most Vikings don't need help unless they're being chased by an army of angry Gronkles, Hiccup rarely has the chance to help his fellows out. He puts in a good amount of help working at the blacksmith shop in the village, though-- he's been an assistant to Gobber the Belch since he was little (littler), and while most of the tools the Vikings in the village use are easily bigger and heavier than Hiccup himself, he's a pretty good hand at the smithy.

Character:

Character's Name: Ai Tanabe
Character's Fandom: Planetes
Character's Home Universe: Planetes takes place in the 2070s, on and around Earth. There are a couple of small, fictional countries added, and the organization INTO (the International Treaty Organization) acts as a UN-like body to regulate space, but the major international players (the USA, Japan, India, the EU, Russia, China, etc.) all exist, as does conflict with the developing world. Near-Earth orbit is settled, the Moon has a growing population (with a half-dozen children even born there), and Mars has a science base. The first manned mission to Jupiter is being launched. Technology has advanced, with suborbital flights as a common means to quickly travel from one place to another, tourism encompassing all of near-Earth space and the Moon, and helium-three fusion (from mined lunar regolith) replacing oil as the mainstay of energy (destabilizing the Middle East).

Canon Point you're taking him/her/it from: Post-finale of the anime. It is strongly implied that Ai was pregnant at the end of the series, but I'm choosing to make it a 'false alarm', since I neither want to deal with a pregnant character nor one recovering from a miscarriage.
Method of Arrival on Station: Ai was recruited from her world. She thus was able to bring some small effects (mostly photos and things like that) with her.

Physical Appearance: http://myanimelist.net/character/5263/Ai_Tanabe. She is a Japanese woman in her twenties, with reddish-brown hair and brown eyes. She had a chance to pack her own bags -- the picture here has her in a suit she wore for interviews. Her casual clothing is a bit unstylish (she seems to like button-down shirts and sweater-vests for work, and T-shirts/tank tops for off-duty), but she totally pulls it off.

Personality: The first impression people get of Ai is of someone who is perky, and more than a bit of a flake. It's not that she's dumb or unable to do her job, but she is rather unobservant of herself and others' feelings. She strongly believes in the power of love to unite things, and that maybe if we all were just a lot more caring, somehow things would work out. She's more than a bit excitable, though, and does have enough sense to see when she can't excuse others' behavior. Then you see that she can be angry just as passionately as she can be happy.

Beneath Ai's cheerful exterior beats a heart that, though tested, was able to remain true to her convictions. She is a pacifist and an idealist, but is willing to die for her ideals -- in fact the nerve damage she suffers is a reminder of that, as it was obtained when she refused to either leave behind or steal the oxygen tanks from an injured terrorist when the two of them crash-landed on the Moon during a terrorist assault in lunar orbit. Ai was determined that no one would die, even those who were willing to kill her and all her friends, and she wasn't willing to take a life to save her own. (Property damage is a-okay, though.)

Working with some of the more creative members of Debris Section gave Ai an appreciation for bending the letter of the rules in favor of the spirit or just The Right Thing to Do, though she's generally an orderly person. In other words, she is very unlikely to break the rules for the hell of it or for her own convenience, but believes more in fairness and mercy than in obedience.

Re: Ai Tanabe 2/3?

[personal profile] beccastareyes 2010-11-12 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Abilities and Skills: Ai is a garden-variety normal human woman. She has some slight nerve damage from anoxia, but that has been mostly fixed. Skill-wise, Ai's former job was as an EVA specialist assisting in removal of debris from low-Earth orbits. She's in good physical shape, and is technically competent. She's got a well-developed intuition about moving in low/micro-gravity, is comfortable using a pressure suit, even an armored one, and has passed things like sensory deprivation tests. She's also used to balky equipment -- Debris Section had half the budget it should have had, and much of their equipment is old, second-hand or jury-rigged -- though she's no engineer or mechanic, she can at least tell when it's something that needs a specialist, and when it can be fixed by jiggering it a bit.

Sample: "Fine," the agent said, after she realized Ai wouldn't be moved unless she was physically hauled into the gate. "You have an hour. And I'm reading over everything you send. For security purposes."

Ai took off the cap to her pen. If she was sending mail to orbit or the moon, electronic would be cheaper, but there was something personal about a letter. "An hour, got it. But wouldn't you have liked to send mail to your family, Ma'am? When you were recruited."

"I didn't run into a Resistance member. I was brought in machines floating around the JunkStation," the agent responded promptly. "No chance to say my goodbyes."

"That's horrible," Ai said. "How cruel. And-"

"Fifty-nine minutes, Tanabe."

"Fifty-nine minutes. Right."

Her parents, Mrs. Hoshino and Kyutaro, Fee and Yuri, Philippe and Ravi, Edel and Lucee -- she set their photos out as she worked. The basics were the same: 'While Hachirota is away on the Von Braun, I'm going to be working on a project. Don't worry if you don't hear from me for a while'. She apologized to her old co-workers for not coming back to Debris Section like she said, and congratulated Lucy on her wedding and Edel on her promotion. She asked Fee and Rabi how their kids were, without expecting a response. Pleasantries were easy, if she didn't think about the scope of things. How did Hachi talk himself into going on the Von Braun?

Right, he drove himself crazy pretending he didn't need other people until he nearly died in a motorcycle accident. Her husband was not a role model for this.

She put the ones heading for ISPV7 and the ones staying in Japan into two piles and started on Clare's letter. Clare's had a little more purpose. Ai wished she was on the Moon to tell her this in person. 'You said I was one of the privileged few. You were probably right. I'm going to try to help people more, and hope that your plans to go back to El Tanika to teach once you're out go well. Tell me about it when I get back, all right?'

She handed that last letter to the agent. "Just need to make a voice recording." Nothing could get to the Von Braun as it flew to Jupiter, besides radio waves. As the wife of one of the EVA specialists, she could have a small amount of time on the weekly uplinks.

The agent scanned Clare's letter. "'Once you're out'?"

Ai nodded. "Clare's in prison right now. It's kind of a long story."

"You realize this letter makes you sound like one of her accomplices. Between that and you dropping off the grid, and someone might get very concerned."

Ai paused. "You think so? I hope that doesn't cause trouble." It wouldn't reach her, but it could worry her parents, or hurt Fee and Yuri. Then again, it wouldn't make sense, since she had been helping Colin and Lucee at the time of the attack.

Character:

Character's Name: Lain Iwakura
Character's Fandom: Serial Experiments Lain
Character's Home Universe:
Lain's home universe appears to be a near future version of our own universe, where the net has evolved into an higher form known as the Wired. The Wired appears to be more immersible then the net in that it allows users to be connected at the mental level, as shown by the representation of people's avatars which are manifest as more complete human beings depending on a persons mental capacity and skill. As shown when another user compliments Lain for being able to manifest her entire body on the Wired, while he and others are only able to manage a mouth or ear.

Also notable is existence of a group known as the Knights of the Eastern Calculas, a group of hackers that are often considered to be a urban legend. They are devoted to something called the “One Truth” which later turns out to be that god exists within the Wired. This so called “God” is later revealed to be the digitized consciousness of programmer Masami Eri.

Method of Arrival on Station:
Lain will be wandering into the station of her own power after the series ending, in which she erased herself from humanity's collective memories.

Physical Appearance:
http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/show/645389/abe_yoshitoshi-absurdres-artbook-bare_shoulders-ch
She will be wearing the white dress/camisole from the lower left picture.
Personality:
Over the course of the series we see Lain display three different and distinct personalities, for the purpose of the RP all three will be merged together as shown by the end of the series when Lain finally accepts that the other Lains are in fact a part of her.

The first of Lain's personalities is present from beginning of the series, and manifests as a shy and isolated young girl. This Lain shown to have few to no friends and seems to spend most of her time either in school or alone in her room. This matter is made worse by the fact that her family are extremely apathetic to Lain's existence and tend to ignore her in most situations.

Due to her isolation and lack of social skills, Lain has problems connecting with other people and rarely speaks to her class mates even when they initiate conversation with her first. The sole exception to this is a girl named Alice who is somehow able to get around Lain's thick defenses and form somewhat of a friendship with her.

The shy Lain is also the one that later becomes entwined in Masami Eri's plot to overlap the real and wired worlds. In her depression over finding out her family were actors and her physical body a product of Eri's design, with nothing to latch onto in the real world, Lain goes along with Eri's plan until Alice is able to convince her that her existence in the real world was not a waste.

The second of Lain's personalities, often called Lain of the Wired, first appears when she begins assembling her custom Navi and entering the world of the Wired. This personality is much more outgoing then Lain's “real world” personality and tends to be more social in the same regard. In the world of the Wired, this Lain is slightly infamous, drawing attention to herself for her delving into esoteric information related to such things as the Knights of the Eastern Calculus and the K.I.D.S. Project.

Her information gathering seems to have some empathic tinges, as she becomes very angry at the fact that the scientist behind the K.I.D.S Project allowed so many children to be hurt for his research. Though, much of this research involves trailing the Knights, such as the game Phantoma being connected to a childrens tag game via a program derived from K.I.D.S and put together by the Knights.

This Lain is also prone to fits of anger when confronted with things and situations her normal personality cannot deal with. This is best represented during Lain's first real confrontation with Eri Masami in which this personality stood outside arguing with Eri, while her real world counterpart lay in her room covered in wires and sulking.

[identity profile] eternal-dolly.livejournal.com 2010-11-15 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Lain's final personality, the Evil or Dark Lain, is a manifestation of Lain's darker emotions. First appearing during the series second episode, confronting a man who was under the influence of a mind altering drug known as Accelo, with the cryptic line “we are all connected!”. The Evil Lain is prone to doing horrible things to people and seems to delight in ruining what Lain's real world counterpart has worked so hard for.

She also seem to exhibit the information gathering proficiency that the Wired Lain does but uses them to much more sinister ends. Evil Lain tends to collect various rumors and secrets about people then spread them all over the Wired, causing a grief and sorrow for a large amount of people.

This doesn't hit home for Lain until she is accused of being a peeping tom for spreading the fact that Alice was dating one of her teachers, all over the network. Though Alice believes Lain was innocent of the matter, her mind quickly changes when Lain's evil personality appears in her room during an inappropriate moment and beings laughing at her. This act ruins Lain's friendship with Alice until the very end of the series, a fact that her evil side finds very amusing. Lain vigorously denies that this personality is a part of her while at the same admitting Dark Lain embodies everything she hates about herself.

Abilities and Skills:
Lain's true nature is somewhat of a mystery. Eri claims she is a program with a body, while Lain herself seems to suggest that her true nature is something closer to a physical representation of the human collective unconscious.

Whatever the truth is, it is known that she is not human and is capable of god like feats. Among these powers include the ability to overwrite other people's memories, going as far as to reset the memories of all of human kind at the end of the series.

Lain also seems to exist at all times and places at the same time, as exhibited by the fact that she is able to see Alice fifteen years into the future. And the fact that her various personalities are able to manifest themselves in multiple places at the same time, though this seems to be mildly dependent on the Wired to do so.

Sample:
Lain had never been her own person, she was defined by those around her. Her family, friends and even Eri defined her existence in their own ways. It seemed like the only person who ever truly let her be herself was Alice, but the way things were now she could only watch her, and the rest of humanity, from afar. She had in essence relegated herself an existence in exile, but here, in this place, things were different. Here, even if all she had done till this moment was watch over the station's residents from within the network, she could once again interact with the world around her, leaving memories of herself within their minds and forming proof of her existence.

Today's interaction would be more direct, she decided silently, she would broadcast a simple message on the network to any who cared to hear it. She thought it would best to be direct about her existence, surely the people in such a strange place had seen things odder then a girl who may or may not be the embodiment of humanity's collective unconscious. And, giving no further thought to the matter, the message is on its way to every avalible terminal on the station carrying Lain's sullen face and message of existence to the outside world.

“Hello, my name is Lain Iwakura and just wanted to let everyone know that I have been living within the station's network for a few days now.” Lain's tone was mildly happy as she spoke, it was hard for her to maintain any high level of happiness after all that had happened to her. “That all I wanted to say and hope we can all connect someday!” The broadcast fades from any screens upon which it may have been playing, the world acting as if nothing had even happened.

The Lifestream is the blood of the planet, a collection of souls the swarms deep within the earth’s core. It’s this energy that the ShinRA Company uses to fuel their enormous Mako Reactors across the world. Most of the world is still somewhat bare much likes times before, but the wilderness that lies beyond great cities such as Midgar and Junon, are far and few in-between. Midgar is the biggest city on realm, a city built upon the slums as a towering pizza wrought steel and iron. Beneath are the common folks, men, and women who are too poor to live within the metropolis above. Midgar is a dirty and cruel city, but it is the home of many dreamers and young heroes alike.

Beyond Midgar lie remnants of the past this broken world once knew. The Legacy of the Ancient Ones is still viewable in the form of ruined temples and forgotten cities. Fresh water sometimes flows through grassy creeks; while in other parts of the world seem desolate and bare. This world is an odd mix of technology and magic, the latter of the two being somewhat rare.

The world of Final Fantasy VII is a world in peril by an alien visitor that wishes to purge all life. Known as the “Calamity of the Skies”, Jenova reeks its malevolent poison on this realm in hopes of annihilating everyone there.

Aerith Gainsborough [2/5]

[identity profile] pinkgospel.livejournal.com 2010-11-20 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Described as a humble young flower girl from the slums, Aerith Gainsborough is delightful young woman with a welcoming smile and bright green eyes. Known as a gentle soul, Aerith possesses a rather vibrant, upbeat personality that shines greatly during times of strife and worry. Despite being raised within the slums of Midgar, Aerith’s genial demeanor rarely fades. She is an independent woman, the kind of girl who hates to hinder others with her own problems or woe. Aerith goes out of her way to help others without expecting others to help her. She maintains a certain vibe of selflessness when around friends and loved ones; Aerith isn’t the kind of person to put her own needs above others. This aspect of her personality is perhaps her greatest strong point but can act as her greatest weakness. Her unlimited kindness can sometimes lead her into trouble but even so, Aerith prides herself in being a caring and loving person.

As a Cetra, Aerith feared the powers she gained from her real mother, Iflana, especially during her youth. Aerith’s fears eventually quelled once she accepted herself for what she is but sometimes that fear still bubbles up within her. Her relation to the Cetra is a discussion that is rarely had with anyone other than just herself. Aerith isn’t shy of her true nature but rather saddened at the thought of being one of the fabled ‘Ancients’. Not even during her brief romantic relation with Zack Fair did Aerith speak of her past. Some things are just better left unsaid, especially when it’s something so personal.

Being the last of her kind, Aerith was constantly hunted down by Shinra’s goons; forcing her to learn quickly how to protect herself. While she isn’t a strong fighter, Aerith is certainly capable of evading the advances of the Turks whenever they searched for her. Her fearless and independent spirit is embodied within her street smarts. While she may seem like a dainty and frail girl, Aerith makes up her shortcomings by being a wise and sometimes sassy woman who will do to protect herself and others. She prefers to use words to defuse conflicts but sometimes Aerith must take up her staff to whack her pacifistic views into those who wish to harm her.

Character:

Character's Name: Riffael Raffit
Character's Fandom: Godchild
Character's Home Universe: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earl_Cain
Method of Arrival on Station: He was snatched up and placed in a sleep pod.
Physical Appearance: http://media.animevice.com/uploads/0/272/86103-_large__animepaper_scans_count_cain_ramius_51698_large.jpg
Personality: Riff is the head butler to the Hargreaves household, as such he is very serious aqbout his duties and feels it important that they are performed exceptionally. Riff is fiercely loyal to Cain Hargreaves, his lord and friend. Riff is also very protective of Cain and the boy’s happiness and often seems strict when in actuality he’s just concerned for Cain’s well-being.Riff often keeps a cool and calm demeanor, although he’ll become extremely angry if Cain or Mary are threatened.
Riff also suffers from multiple personality disorder and his old, once dominant personality was constantly angry and cruel. The alternate personality is the complete opposite of Riff, choosing to be called by his full name, Riffael and being right-hand dominant instead of Riff’s left hand, the two are like opposite sides of the same coin. Despite Riffael having once been the dominant personality, it is Riff who holds control nearly all the time.
Abilities and Skills: Due to his employment as head butler, Riff’s organizational skills are incredible and his cleaning and cooking skills are also at a high level. Riff is also very good at finding out usually hidden information, which aids Cain in the earl’s ‘extra-curricular activities’. Before Riff became Cain’s head butler, he was going to medical school to be a doctor so Riff has a generous amount of medical knowledge.
Sample:
Riff wasn’t exactly certain where he was. It was bright and strange, that was certain, and he was alone. He couldn’t explain it, he had awoken in some sort of containment chamber, a device he didn’t recognize, although he was certain it was something beyond his time and there had been no one about.
After a little while of trying to reorient himself, he had left the room of those chambers and had found himself in a place that seemed like a city, except it was more like a city indoors. When Riff had finally decided to ask someone, although attempting not to sound stupid while inquiring about the lack of sky was very difficult, he had been lucky enough to find someone who had explained that Riff and the entire establishment were in ‘space’. Right. That had made no sense either, so when he had asked for further explanation, he had been hoping for a straight answer, sick of being confused and in an unfamiliar environment, instead the man had kindly informed him he was on a station that was made up of objects from multiple universes and worlds.
This was when Riff had decided he had awoken in some sort of strange asylum or institute because while the man was nice, he was clearly crazy. Now Riff was wondering around, trying to pick up as much information that was at least understandable so that, perhaps he could find out where he was and how far away from home this was. As curios about this strange place as Riff was, he couldn’t stay, he needed to return home and help his Lord Cain. Being away for too long, who knew how long he’d been gone at this point as it was, was not acceptable, not on a professional level, and certainly not on a personal level. Cain needed him.

Character:

Character's Name: Darth Vader (formerly Anakin Skywalker)
Character's Fandom: Star Wars
Character's Home Universe:
Vader’s from the Galaxy Far, Far Away, which is a traditional space-opera setting. There are three main forces that shape the Galaxy: the Jedi Order- a monastic order that shuns emotions in favor of logic and the Light Side of the Force, the Sith Lords, who tend to be more brutal and rely on emotions such as anger for their powers, and the non-Force users who make up the governments of the Republic and later the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
For more information: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
Canon Point you're taking him/her/it from: Vader is from moments after his limbs are cut off and he is set on fire after losing a duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Method of Arrival on Station: I feel like we talked about Vader popping on out of a pod, still on fire, and frightening a little girl? That seems like the best way to go.
Physical Appearance: Right now, Vader is a flaming torso with one remaining prosthetic arm.

[identity profile] sith-on-fire.livejournal.com 2010-12-14 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Vader’s the opposite of everything he was as Anakin- he’s withdrawn, coldly calculating, brutal, uncompromising, and totally devoted to the swift execution of the Emperor’s orders. He outranks everyone in the galaxy, with the exception of the Emperor, and while he doesn’t lord over people, he also will strangle an underling to death for looking at him funny (in the most literal sense). He views his unorthodox methods with his staff as ‘fair’; one chance to succeed and death as punishment for anyone who fails him is as fair as it gets in Vader’s mind.
His experiences in the Clone Wars made him into more of a soldier than a Jedi, and with the death of his wife (his fault) and total alienation from every single being he was close to has left ‘soldier’ as the only remaining facet of his personality. Vader thinks of nothing other than his next campaign, his next nemesis, his next ship—his interior has become just as mechanical as his exterior.
To use an awkward metaphor, the layers of Vader are heaped on top of a very, very fragile base, cracked and flawed from when Anakin was broken by the Emperor and first fell to the Dark Side. Any deviation from his devotion to the Emperor and his mission to bring the galaxy under the rule of the Empire, any stray thought of what could have been had he made a different choice would be enough to end his very tenuous hold on sanity. It lends to the aura of danger that hangs around Vader- the quiet before his coming storm, or the sense of a rabid dog being held by a fraying leash.

Abilities and Skills:
Vader has access to the Force, which is an energy field produced by all living things. He can use it telekinetically to lift, push, throw, and generally manipulate objects around him; in addition it grants him a kind of telepathy/empathy with other Force users. The Force also heightens his senses and reactions, even giving him a kind of sixth sense that can warn him of impending danger. Most often he uses it to strangle people with his mind.

Sample:

The sound of his breathing would make him mad. He had come to accept everything else—the ripple of pain every time he tore the fresh, pink skin of his burns, the way the Force felt deadened when he reached to touch it, even the creak of his new limbs- but the ragged sound of his forced breaths was merciless. He clenched his new fist, thinking of Kenobi. He was the one who had done this to him. He had taken his wife, her child, everything from him. Kenobi would die over the course of weeks- no, months.

He stood, waving off the protests of a nearby orderly, and ripped the IV out of his arm. Once he had discovered which planet he had ended up on, and how he had come to be here, he would commandeer a ship and return to the Emperor’s side. Each miniscule movement was agonizing without the drugs, but that was good- it fueled his connection to the Dark Side, with each flare of agony bringing him closer to power he needed to reclaim his freedom.

I am the Lord of the Sith now. I will be held by no one.

The orderly’s protests came to an abrupt end as Vader wrapped his hand around the unfortunate being’s neck.

“You will tell me I may gain access to a ship,” he rasped, railing internally at how thin and whispery his voice had become. He would need to augment it somehow. “Tell me now, or—“ he tightened his grip.

His answer did not come soon enough- there was a sharp crack, and Vader threw the corpse to the ground. He would clearly have to do this himself.

CERTAINLY!

Luke Skywalker Re-App - Sample

[identity profile] inheritsthesky.livejournal.com 2010-12-15 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
Luke had eaten a lot of pretty nasty food since leaving Tatooine. Stars, he’d eaten a lot of nasty food living on Tatooine, but the energy bars the Alliance had provided their personnel hadn’t exactly been the height of upper crust Coruscanti cuisine. But this food brick was pretty much the most awful thing Luke had had in a long time.

And yet, knowing he had to keep up his strength, Luke gnawed away at it. It was definitely preferable to starving, and if Luke was going to be as useful as the resistance agent had thought he was going to be when he’d approached Luke on Obroa-skai, he couldn’t turn his nose up. Besides, it would be rude (to whom exactly Luke wasn’t sure, but that wasn’t the point), and Aunt Beru had taught him better than that. In any case, he was pretty sure a Jedi wouldn’t refuse food just because it tasted like styrofoam either, and even drawing on the Force for energy only lasted so long.

It was all energy he would need. Energy enough to stop the Fay’lia and make sure that this Empire, so similar to the one he’d spent nine years working to defeat, didn’t put an end to the entire multiverse as they knew it. And when he reached out to the flow of energy around him, he felt a gentle reassurance that he was on the right path. He had to do it - for his sister and her new family, for his friends, and most importantly, because he was a Jedi.

It made the food bearable.

Almost.

Character's Name: Luke Skywalker (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Luke_Skywalker)
Character's Fandom: Star Wars Expanded Universe
Character's Home Universe: THE GALAXY (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Wars_Galaxy).

Physical Appearance:
Luke is about 5'7", with a slender but strong build. Having lived for the first nineteen years of his life on a planet with two suns, he has tanned skin, and his hair is blond from being out in the light so much. But by far, his most striking feature would be his eyes; they're a very bright blue.

Seriously, dude is bitty. (http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20060116125322/starwars/images/thumb/c/ca/Luke-black.jpg/100px-Luke-black.jpg)

Personality:
When he was young, Luke was impulsive, mind always on what he was doing rather than on the consequences of his actions. Now, after gaining mastery over the Force, Luke has a serenity and calm about him even in the heat of battle that lends him focus. In a strange situation, while others around him might be freaking out, Luke will do his best to remain calm and think through the problem, or let the Force guide him to whatever it wills. These things can come off as passivity, which can sow doubt in Luke's mind - an uncertainty about his place in the Force, his leadership ability and the world at large.

Luke is very loyal to those he cares about, whether they are friend or family, and will do anything to help them out if he can. This is one unshakable conviction, despite that it has been tested over and over. His love and loyalty have earned him many friends and will continue to earn him many more, as he is a good man with a strong sense of empathy.

Abilities and Skills:
Luke's Force abilities include, but are not limited to:
-telekinesis.
-recovering from injuries via meditation.
-precognition via dreams.
-telepathy, mostly with other Jedi and not very distinct at all.
-danger sensing
-creating an illusion, as small as changing his appearance and as large as an entire fleet of starships.
-lightning. Except Luke's is green.
-aiding in lightsaber dueling (evasion, speed boosts, etc) and piloting.

Luke is excellently trained in melee combat with saber- or sword-like weapons, nor is he a bad shot with a blaster or ship-mounted weaponry. Because he's lent an extra measure of calm through the Force, he would make an excellent diplomat--though he'd rather be out doing good rather than just arguing for it.

Character:

Character's Name: Nicholas D. Wolfwood, alias Nicholas the Punisher
Character's Fandom: Trigun
Character's Home Universe: The Planet Gunsmoke; An arrid desert planet deep in space. After Earth's resources had been used up, they attempted to settle space, but sabotage aboard the ships caused them to land. As such, much of the technology was damaged and lost, leaving the civilization stagnated as an odd form of "wild west high tech". Additionally, "lost technology" and extradimensional generators called "Plants" are rare, but scattered throughout the planet.
Canon Point you're taking him/her/it from: Episode 23 - Paradise; Plucked as he opened the doors to the church.
Method of Arrival on Station: There are strange machines scattered around the Hubverse which reach across dimensions and pluck people out, depositing them in cryogenic sleep pods. We found your character in one of those pods. This is particularly good for characters who would be otherwise unwilling to help.
Physical Appearance: Wolfwood is tall, thin, and broad shouldered. He has straight, jet black hair and features that denote partial asian heritage. He is almost always seen wearing a black suit with a white shirt, open collar. At best estimate, he would be roughly 6'2" and weigh about 185 lbs. His build is thin yet athletic, best described as wiry.
Personality: Nicholas is an odd dichotomy in and of himself. While indisputably a cold-hearted killer, he is also a caring and compassionate human being. He is known to be charitable, such as giving his last bits of food to hungry children, and a protector, putting himself in harm's way for a good cause. However, he is also cynical and occasionally cruel, feeling the world to be an evil place and often brushing off idealism as foolish optimism. Despite this, however, his own good nature often breaks through given the right impetus.
Due to his own upbringing and the environment he lives in, he is severely protective of children, running an orphanage which he supports through his activities as a Gung-Ho Gun. He also is severely loyal to those who prove themselves friends, even rebelling against his superiors to keep them from harm. He also has a lecherous/romantic streak ill fitting to a priest, often letting a pretty face (or pair of legs) lead him into trouble.
Wolfwood is currently suffering from a severe case of cognizant dissonance; that is to say, conflict between his beliefs and the reality of the world. Having lived his life as an assassin in a harsh world, he has always assumed killing was simply a part of life. Recently, however, he has been shown a better way, and is currently trying to reconcile who he has been, who he is, and who he wants to be. It is this belief that led to his mortal injury, but he will continue to try his best, though he is still instinctively a warrior who will "kill spiders to save butterflies" if the need arises.
Abilities and Skills: Wolfwood has been trained since childhood as a Gung-Ho Gun, and as such, is an expert gunfighter and melee combatant. He is particularly skilled in the use of guns, especially his specialized Punisher X cross. He has incredible strength and a great sense of balance, able to lift and utilize the 150 kg cross-weapon with ease. This and training seem to have also enhanced his speed and reflexes, as he is able to draw, aim, and accurately fire at speeds rivalling the inhuman Vash the Stampede.
Additionally, Wolfwood is trained and ordained as a priest, having a full knowledge of the bible, ceremonies, and general philosophy.

[identity profile] burden-of-sin.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Sample: Wolfwood was taken for a loss. The question was simple, but he couldn't come up with an answer. What would he, a simple priest, do? He had worked hard to establish his new life, even with the cooperation of the crew who knew his secret, who had seen him when he had first come aboard. He had gained friendship, respect. Amidst the war-torn atmosphere, he had somehow strived and found his Eden. Vash would be proud.
Now, however, his paradise was to be shattered. He knew it wasn't about him. He looked behind him, at the children, parents, and other civilians behind him who would be mowed down if he did not make a stand this moment. His Eden could come, but not at the price of so many innocent lives. And the tyrant's guards were right. There was nothing a priest could do about it. It was time to show them another side to the cleric's life.
"Forced to become the devil himself..." He muttered with an ironic smile as he removed his sunglasses. Behind them were not the warm eyes of a kindly caretaker, but the cold, steely eyes of a man who had spent his life shedding blood. With lightning speed that caught the warriors by surprise, his hand moved and quickly removed the cloth from the cross. As he unleashed a volley of gunfire at the guards, he prayed silently for forgiveness.

Character:

Character's Name: Juan Angel Barrett-Castillo, alias Jack Barrett
Character's Fandom: WoD (OC)
Character's Home Universe: The World of Darkness is one that historically mirrors our own, save the confirmed existance of the supernatural. Werewolves, mages, hunters, vampires, and changelings are all commonplace, though they have their own shadow societies and try to remain mingled-yet-separate from humanity.
Method of Arrival on Station: plucked and podded
Physical Appearance: Jack is medium height with a slender build. He has bright eyes and dark hair, which he keeps at various lengths day to day. He loves dressing to the occasion, but also prefers his clothes to be comfortable, choosing soft fabrics, a baggy fit, or both.
Character History: Juan Angel Barrett-Castillo was born in 1233 to an english knight and a spanish noblewoman. The third of four children, he never really had a care in the world, having access to the family wealth and priveleges without having to worry about the titles or having to enter the priesthood. Free of such obligations, he took his studies very lightly, preferring to spend his time with the servants. He lived laugh happily and freely until the time of his eighteenth birthday, at which point his parents gave him a small sum and unceremoniously put him out.
The next few years saw him making his way as a guitarist and singer, as well as an adept gambler. It was during this time when young Juan met "The Countess", a french noblewoman who was rather taken with his fair features and talents. After several nights flirtation, she took him in for a night, and revealed her true nature. He accepted the Embrace willingly, and became her companion. However, as happens among immortals, they grew bored with eachother after a half a century or so, and parted ways.
The next 600 years of his life are largely shrouded in mystery and folklore. What is known is that he managed to skirt by life with very little effort or power, while still remaining a large thorn in the side to those who grew to call themselves the Camarilla, and eventually the Sabbat. He was distrusted for a combination of his age and his unwillingness to become involved in the politics of vampire affairs. In the end, however, he always managed to stay a step ahead, usually through luck, quick wits, and charm.
In the late 19th century, he was seen by an old ally at a bar in London with a strange man, later confirmed to be a mage named Tom Sarandon. He was babbling about going to the far east to assist the mage in experiments that could change everything. This was the last anyone would hear of him for 90 years. He resurfaced in North America in the early 1980s, flouting a new ability; He could walk in the day and sleep as he chose. This made him a frequent target for the Camarilla and Sabbat alike, hoping to gain the secrets behind his unique ability. He would spend the majority of his time until Gehenna getting in and out of clashes with them.
The night before the Week of Nightmares, he went to sleep after a fun, post-not-getting-killed celebration party, and found himself awakening on the junkstation.

[identity profile] wildcardjack.livejournal.com 2010-12-30 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Unlike most vampires, Jack has no compunctions or problems with his undead status. He sees immortality as a gift; an eternity of wine, women, and song. He's quick to laugh, and always has a joke or quip prepared for the occasion. He is empathic and carries a strong sense of justice, often delivering a poetic brand of it to those he sees as doing wrong. He is primarily marked by a love of the arts, devouring books and picking up and learning new instruments and dances quickly and eagerly.
However, he does have a darker side. In the end, Jack can always be described as a world-class liar and con-man. He is cunning, resourceful, manipulative, and machiavellian. While not as power-hungry or controlling as other elders, he has no problem using intimidation to achieve ends as he sees fit. Hundreds of years of practice have only given him more of a psychological edge to these practices, as well as a distance from mortal morality few can comprehend. His most repugnant trait is that, unlike the commercialized "good vampires" in today's media, he has no problem killing and feeding off of humans, seeing it as an act of nature and comparing it to a human eating a steak.
Abilities and Skills: As a vampire, Jack is stronger and faster than the average human, about equal to a world class athlete. He has possesses enhanced senses, even able to see auras. However, he has been too lazy and shiftless to ever really learn, much less master, any other vampiric gifts. He also heals at an enhanced rate, and is semi-immortal through agelessness.
In a fight, Jack is a relatively weak combatant. He is trained in the use of the sword, and an accomplished bar brawler, but generally he relies on his strength and speed to carry him through most instances. He picked up a gun, once, in 1989, and managed to blow half his foot off.
Throughout the centuries, Jack has picked up a number of skills. He is an established lockpick and pickpocket. Furthermore, he is adept at sleight of hand and illusion after a stint as a magician in the early 1800s. His passion, however, has always been the arts, with a focus on music. As such, he is talented with a variety of instruments and styles, as well as being a trained dancer in many forms, from ballroom to breakdancing. Additionally, he is fluent in several languages, most notably spanish, english, french, latin, german, russian, chinese, and japanese.
As a vampire, Jack has a variety of weaknesses. While no longer affected by the sun to the same degree as his brethren, prolonged exposure seems to drain him of energy, putting him at risk for torpor within a couple of hours. He is highly flammable, and even the presence of fire can send him into a psychotic, berserker state. He has a peculiar allergy to silver, unable to touch the metal. He is prone to torpor if staked in the heart, and will die from decapitation. Finally, he must feed regularly, otherwise losing his vampiric abilities and eventually succumbing to torpor.

Mara Jade [ Star Wars ] 2/?

[identity profile] emperorshand.livejournal.com 2010-12-31 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Physical Appearance: Mara is a slim woman who stands at about 5 ft, 3 inches. She has a dancer’s build, and it’s shown by not only her frame, but also affects many of her physical movements, such as the way she walks. She has red-gold hair, and green eyes, set in a lean face with full lips.
Personality: Mara's greatest strengths come from her spirit. She is commanding, confident, cool, but also capable of great love. (Even if she does not know it at this point in the canon.) She has a strong will, and can command the force very well, when she wishes to. However, Mara does not rely on her command of the force, as she believes it will make her weak. Instead, she avoids it almost altogether, and uses her quick thinking, sharp tongue, and quick trigger-finger to get her through any situation. However, she cannot cut herself off from the force so readily, and is prone to experiencing visions and using it when the need is there. She doesn’t rely on it, but she is pragmatic.

However, her biggest weakness is her inability to depend on anyone or anything. She has begun to learn to trust again, but has not quite reached that point. After the control that Palpatine held over her life, she has thus begun to reject anything that could have control over her. Perhaps this is why she chose to work for Talon Karrde, who is a leader, but also a man that greatly respects each member of his crew a great amount. Another weakness she has is to the Dark Side. Since Mara is still not fully trained (Her former teacher, Kyle Katarn did not complete her training, and in fact fell to the dark side himself for a time) she is very susceptible to the dark side, but her spirit and stubborn attitude have kept her from ever actually falling, and she has even lectured the Jedi Grand Master, Luke Skywalker, on this subject several times.

With that, comes the way that Mara interacts with people. She is snarky and hot-headed. She does not let others come close to her, and makes sure that they only even marginally like her. The exception to this is Luke and his family. She has helped them out a number of times, but she still does act exactly nice to them. Luke, however is very persistent, and does put up with her increasingly snarky attacks. It seems that the closer she gets to someone, the harsher she becomes, and the less willing she is to relinquish any control to that person. However, Mara is respectful when the time is called for, and those that she has gained a respect for she will die trying to protect and fight for.

Lastly, Mara tends to cling to inanimate objects. Not in any particularly damaging way, but she feels that things that she earns are hers, and should be known as such. (Her ship, for example, is called the "Jade's Fire".) She simply has a need to fill up a particular emptiness in her life that she did not feel when working for Palpatine. She felt a strong ideology towards the Imperial Cause, and only when she broke from his post-mortem control did she realize that the cause she had felt so strongly for was a sham. This is why she clings to things that are very much in reality, instead of ideologies.

Abilities and Skills: Mara at this point is skilled in using the force, however, her resistance in depending on using the force has greatly affected how skilled she could potentially be with it, had she used it more consistently. However, what she lacks in consistency with her force abilities, she makes up with through her lifetime of training. Mara is skilled and well-trained in forms of martial arts, using weapons, espionage, sabotage, mechanics, and a myriad of other skills that would have been needed during her period as the Emperor’s hand, read: assassin/informant. Her strongest skill lies in her well-honed danger sense, and the force abilities that she’s at least mediocre in include telekinesis and precognition, as well as very minor skills in healing. Her abilities with mind-tricks are abysmal, however.

There are spaceships, cybernetic prosthetics and even colonies on other planets. There are still some remnants of past; various forms of guns from the late 20th century are still quite popular. Also, problems that plagued people in the modern 20th century still exist. Corruption of powerful figures wasn't uncommon. Poverty still existed. Faye herself had massive debts after being unfrozen from cryogenic sleep. Crime was all but accepted in her time. Vigilantes known as cowboys (bounty hunters) would take down these criminals if the price on their heads was right.
Canon Point you're taking him/her/it from: I'm taking Faye from just before her first appearance in the anime (Session 3: Honky Tonk Women). At this point, she'll have amassed massive debt gambling to pay off what she owed on Whitney Hagas Matsumoto's debt. He had (unknown to Faye) faked his death, leaving his money management issues in her name. She is currently on the run from a very influential and far reaching casino owner (Known only as Gordon). She has spent almost no time on Senburu-Trati'salan.
Method of Arrival on Station: Option 2: Faye was contacted by a Resistance agent in her home universe, told the truth about the multiverse and signed up there.
Physical Appearance: http://hollywoodhatesme.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/faye-valentine.jpg After arriving, Faye was given a sleeveless silver mini dress with black accents down the sides. She was allowed to keep her white boots and hair band.

Re: Faye Valentine 2/2

Personality: Faye is a somewhat complex woman. Outwardly, she comes off as cold and selfish. She seems to be (and generally is) concerned about herself and only herself. She's greedy and manipulative, though she has her reasons. She can be snarky, sarcastic and can be rather unpleasant to be around at times. She tends to have a short temper and can be quite violent when angry.

This all hides the redeeming qualities that Faye does possess. When she does become friends with someone, she'll occasionally drop her guard and show hints of kindness. When she considers herself to be loyal to someone, it's unwavering. She also uses her somewhat brash and abrasive personality as a defensive mechanism. After losing her family, as well as a man she may even have loved, she found the pain inside hard to deal with. It was a pain she never wanted to feel again.
Abilities and Skills: Faye is a con-artist of a high level. She also has experience with both hand guns, as well as light automatic machine guns. She's actually a pretty decent card counter when it comes to gambling (she's just a terrible at stopping while ahead).
Sample: It seemed like mere seconds since Faye had been contacted by the Resistance. What a creative name for a group, Faye sarcastically thought to herself. A rather average looking Japanese man that introduced himself as Takeshi Yamashiro had contacted her while she was flying in her ship. He explained the details of the resistance (which Faye paid very little attention to) before inviting her to join the cause. All Faye wanted was to get away from Gordon. If she had to bum around some crappy space station, so be it. She was brought in and dropped off at the holodeck of the Enterprise.

After Faye arrived, she found herself surrounded by a gaggle of organisms. Some where human, others were definitely inhuman. She looked around wearily, not trusting a single thing she saw. It wasn't a matter of any type of prejudice; she was paranoid, though she'd never admit it. What if one of these freaks worked for Gordon? Even worse, what if a normal, bland looking person did? She couldn't trust anyone. She knew she had to play it low key, however. Faye couldn't tip her hand, she had to be inconspicuous. She took a seat, doing her best to keep her eyes from shifting too much. The man that had recruited her, Mr. Yamashiro, stood in front of the congregation.

He started outlining the war, explaining how both sides came to their current being. Faye listened with fleeting interest. He had already given her the basic outline. She saw little point in getting an in-depth version of a story that was already given to her. After what seemed like an eternity to Faye, Mr. Yamashiro finished with the history of the war. “Finally!” Faye moaned. When Mr. Yamashiro went into the daily aspects of life on the shuttle, Faye let out an aggravated groan. She did make sure to pay close attention this time, though she sulked throughout the seminar. The little backpack they were to be issued was an interesting little contraption to her. Sure, she had seen many different gizmos in her home universe. This, however, was different than anything else she had ever seen. After the talking was finally over, Faye got her new backpack. She was also given a new set of clothes. Faye was also told that there was some final paperwork to be completed. “Damn it, come on! You've gotta be kidding!” Faye shouted angrily.

Character's Name: Jack Harkness
Character's Fandom: Torchwood
Character's Home Universe: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Harkness

Canon Point you're taking him/her/it from: After Season Three, he’s been wandering the universe for a bout ten years at this point. He’s only heard bits and pieces of the conflict, but he has seen a few affected planets. However, only now has he chosen to take a stand.

Method of Arrival on Station: He was contacted by a resistance agent that he happened to be looking for at the same time.

Physical Appearance: http://blogs.poz.com/mark/upload/Captain_Jack_Harkness.jpg

Personality: Jack Harkness is considered the universe’s biggest flirt, and this is mainly due to his con-man past and his ability to manipulate people if he needs to. However, he does genuinely care for others and actually puts great stock in the abilities of humans and other sentient creatures. Because of the trauma he suffered at the end of season three when he lost his lover and had to kill his own grandson, Jack is no longer the outgoing and confident flirt that used to be the trademark Jack.
Now he’s more introverted and broody, but that doesn’t stop him from caring for others and being interested in their business. He almost prefers getting involved in things that don’t concern him, just so he can avoid his own past.
Jack has never been one who enjoyed talking about the more painful things of his past, but now, he avoids his history like the plague. More often than not can be found in his “room” or in a bar either trying to forget or, the complete opposite, brooding in his free time.

Jack Harkness~Reserved (2/2)

[identity profile] loyal-judas.livejournal.com 2011-01-11 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Abilities and Skills: Jack has extensive knowledge of alien species and customs, he also has a ‘better than average’ grasp on technology. Jack is a natural born leader and so is very good at dealing with missions and things that involve groups. Jack has one supernatural ability: due to an event in his past he was resurrected by the space-time vortex and because of that was infused with its energy, causing him to become immortal.

Sample: Jack stepped on to Senburu-Trati'salan, his stomach churning at the poor gravity stability, one of the worst he had ever experienced, however, he didn’t let that stop him and he quickly made his way into the station.
He couldn’t believe he was doing this again, joining a war that had nothing to do with him. He knew why he’d done it, he had been too bored, he had too much time to think, but he still couldn’t believe this had been his solution.
It had been a split decision. He had opened his mouth and was spouting stories like the old Jack Harkness, he supposed he had gotten too comfortable, and so had drawn unwanted attention. Before he had even finished his story a recruiter for the very war he had heard so many rumors about was asking him to join.

So, just like the old Jack Harkness, he had said yes. He supposed that all this reverting to the person he had been for 200 or so years was why when the recruiter had asked his name he had replied ‘Captain Jack Harkness’ as easily as if it had been the truth; even though he had long abandoned that persona, that entire man and everything that had come with him.
Now he was stuck, stuck being the person he wanted to escape with the past he never wanted to remember but could never forget. As Jack made his way to what the station offered as a bar, he could only smirk bitterly at his ridiculous impulsiveness and the consequences and pain he knew would come with it.

Character:

Character's Name: Edward York, The Little Father Without Blame
Character's Fandom: Hunted, by James Alan Gardner
Character's Home Universe: What sets the universe of the League of Peoples apart from the others is a total commitment to non-violence. If you are sentient, you do not kill other sentient beings. If you kill a sentient being, you are non-sentient. And non-sentients are not allowed out of their home system. If they try, they simply drop dead the moment they cross into interstellar space. No one knows how this happens, but the higher-ups in the League are aliens with almost god-like powers. They don't give a shit if lesser species hurt, brainwash, enslave eachother, but they will not allow so much as a single solitary non-sentient being to travel the stars.

So, late into the 21st Century, aliens from the League of Peoples made first contact with humanity with a choice. "Join the League of Peoples. We'll give you a fresh, new, unpolluted duplicate of your homeworld to live on and the right to travel between the stars, provided you agree to this one simple rule: never kill sentient beings." This sounded like a pretty good deal, so four hundred years later, the human Technocracy spans hundreds of worlds all over the galaxy, and most people on these various worlds live in comfort and indolence. Youthboost has doubled humanity's life-expectancy, there's no war, little crime, and medicine can cure almost any illness or injury one might have, and in short, the government is required by the League of People's Law to prevent as much loss of life of its populace as it possibly can. But even in such societies, there still needs to be someone to take the risks.

Which brings me to the other thing that sets the League of Peoples books apart from other science fiction: because violent death is so rare, when it does happen it is devastating to those involved with the deceased. Especially detrimental to fleet morale were the deaths of popular, well-liked, and overall good-looking crew members. It therefore became the policy of the Technocracy's Outward Fleet to draft the ugliest sons of bitches into the part of the fleet in which death happened most often: the Explorer Corps. If you were ugly, deformed, or just plain weird, and yet not disabled in a way that would disqualify you from the Navy, there was an Explorer's black uniform in your future. After all, who cares if some freak dies on a hostile planet?

That's right: the heroes of these books are the equivalent of redshirts from Star Trek.

Edward himself is only an Explorer by virtue of being the son of Admiral Alexander York, who shunted him into the Explorers because they didn't have an admiral to protest against being assigned a 'hopeless retarded idiot'. But it turns out the black uniform suits him after all - his father, when he had Edward and his twin sister, Samantha engineered, had them designed to be 3% mandasar, so they could undergo a transformation that only mandasar females can go through, at the end of which tranformation they become a hive-queen. The process was tested on Edward before Samantha went through it. He was specifically engineered to be stupid so that he wouldn't get in Samantha's way. Once he had gone through the transformation, he was expendable.

Edward and Samantha were created as a plot to take over Troyen, and create a new race of superhumans to rule the galaxy. With the help of Festina Ramos, Kaisho Namida, the Balrog, and a family of mandasars from Celestia, Edward managed to foil that plot and put the rightful Queen of Troyen back on the throne. Samantha and her father were killed, and everyone lived happily ever after. Except for Festina who rode off into the sunset, as it were.

Canon Point you're taking him/her/it from: After the conclusion of Hunted, but before he's officially set up as Lord Protector, and married Counselor (as is briefly mentionned in Radiant)
Method of Arrival on Station: Contacted by a member of the Resistance and smuggled out to the JunkStation

2/3

[identity profile] lobstermonarch.livejournal.com 2011-01-14 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Physical Appearance: He looks completely human. Let's get that out of the way right now. Mandasars look more or less like lobsters, and Edward may be 3% mandasar, but he looks completely human. In fact, genetic engineering has made him look perfectly human, emphasis on the perfect. He's tall, well-built, and has been described as 'devilishly handsome'. He's fifty-seven years old, but thanks to Youthboost he looks no older than if he were in his mid-twenties. These are the only things explicitly mentionned in the novel. He is, however, an opposite-sex clone of his twin sister, so I can extrapolate a few more characteristics based on the descriptions of his sister. Samantha had honey-brown hair, blue eyes, and a fair, freckled complexion. Edward has the honey-brown hair, which he keeps short, but not millitarily short, and the blue eyes, but his freckles have faded with time. 20 years cooped up in an observation post on Troyen's moon has really done a number on his skin - he's extra pale. He has two deep scars, one across his chest and a nasty gash on his forearm, from when one of his mandasar stepsons tried to play with him. He wears the uniform of the Explorer Corps, which consists mostly of a black jacket and slacks.
