Protoman is a robot - a six-foot-tall, extremely human-looking robot, but a robot nonetheless.
He wears a red helmet with a visor that covers almost his entire face, leaving only his mouth uncovered. His body is clad in a most unusual manner - a side-buttoned red tunic, black trousers, and dark brown leather boots modeled on those used by military pilots of his father's era.
Around his neck is a wide - and fairly long - yellow scarf, and on his left hand is a white leather driving glove that reaches up to just below his elbow.
On his right arm is a bulky, multi-barreled energy weapon that looks to be part of his body, but which can actually be detached, revealing a black-gloved hand underneath the weapon.
Personality:
Protoman is, for lack of a better term, a reluctant soldier, having fallen twice in battle - first to Wily's army of evil robots (due to sheer weight of numbers and the cowardice of the inhabitants of the city), and then again at the hands of an unknown sniper when he confronted his younger brother, Megaman.
He's also rather cynical about the whole "hero" thing, as he now believes that heroes - at least, as traditionally portrayed - encourage weakness and dependence in the people they're supposed to protect.
If it can be proven to him that the people who he's asked to assist will be able to take care of themselves once he's gone, he'll do his best to help them - but given his cynical nature, anyone who tries this will likely have a hard time convincing him.
