Jessica stood near the plasteel viewscreen and watched the stars as the station lazily turned in orbit. The odd mismash of vehicles and haphazard layout was far different from the massive Guild transport ships or even the Atreides cruisers she had traveled on in the past. But it was still space, and the presence of the stars did bring her some comfort despite their rather dire situation. Smoothing a lock of hair out of her eyes, she calmly recited the Litany against fear. She had been called across the stars, and across time itself to fight in another battle against a great and terrible enemy, the Fay’lian.

For a fleeting moment, she was tempted to delve into her Other Memories, those of a Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother, to see how far back she could see. Could she see the memories of her sisters from thousands of years ago? The ones who fought in the Butlierian Jihad against the thinking machines? Her ancestors, much like the ragtag bands on Senburu-Trati’salan, faced an overwhelmingly superior force but continued to valiantly struggle despite staggering odds. There were days when Jessica wondered where they found the strength to continue on.

She shook herself, it would be a selfish waste of resources and mental energy to indulge such idle whims. There were plans that needed to be made and contacts that needed to be cultivated in order to further her aims. Jessica was beginning to craft alliances as well as intelligence resources and she needed all of her wits about her in order to see her plan through to a successful conclusion. The Ambassador was easily managed; it was his minister that gave her pause. If it came down to it, she might be forced to deal with him in a far more direct and personal matter.

Her smile was small and fractionally dangerous as she turned away from the view and returned to her quarters. There was still a great deal to do.
